The mission of the core team

Let’s distinguish the core team that supports the Medolo community from the community itself. The core team are employed professional and have a specific mission that do not overlap that of the contributors but interact with them through support, help and interfaces.
This distinction is very importantfor the success and you should keep in mind that the core team doesn’t capture scientific data out of patent but enable that capture by coordinating work, planing and attracting contributors.

The mission of the core team is to support the Medolo community with:

  • infrastructure,
  • help and guidance,
  • planing and project management

and the economy with:

  • financial support (indirect),
  • promoting the open scientific data and its usage,
  • building research and technology consortium
  • managing collaborative project on Medolo

Promotion

Promotion is key for the project, in particular during the first period where all the parts must be mounted.

Medolo is not only looking inside, toward its community. We have the mission to promote usage of open scientific data, and in particular interact with companies dealing with this kind of data.

It is then an ongoing exercise to put in the lights the work of our contributors.

About our project:

Medolo is a start-up non-profit organization specialised in transforming the science data present in patents into open-data using a combination of computers and a community of experts. We are just starting the project and we are recruiting the five members of the team.

We are looking for someone passionate about our mission and values to advance our communication strategy.

As Communication Manager you’ll be responsible for gaining awareness for Medolo, preparing an inaugural online-conference in nine months and setting up a collaborative culture. You’ll be responsible for building the spirit of this new organisation and driving the global engagement of Medolo towards the community of developers and scientists. This includes making collaboration at Medolo a highly rewarding and attractive experience.
The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in online communication, will be fluent in English and experienced in working with diverse, international, multi-stakeholder movements. You’ll have a passion for free, open movements. You’re a compelling communicator, an empathetic and organized coordinator, and a creative tactician with a strong sense of judicious opportunism.

Description:

  • Design communication campaigns in scientific media;
  • Monitor carefully the different campaigns.
    Present the project live, in front of an audience;
  • Create compelling content and material, including website, blog posts, messaging, and other assets;
  • Assist the other four members during partners search and raising funds;
  • Coordinate day-to-day activities and tactics with partners, contributors, donors and other stakeholder;
  • Develop a constituent engagement strategy in collaboration with relevant stakeholders

Requirements:

  • 2-3 years experience of communications, organizing;
  • Fluency in English and another language;
  • Cultural empathy and the ability to understand the perspective of others;
  • Experience with open, collaborative, or movement communities;
  • Ability to learn on the job, spot issues, think fast, and deal comfortably with complex and ambiguous issues with sound judgement;
  • Dedicated, hard working, and able to complete projects independently;
  • A deep passion for auto-organised communities

Project management

What kind of project to manage. Medolo coop don’t manage the Medolo project directly. This function concern the projects that are done in consortium collaborating on Medolo.

Let’s exemplify this:
For the Medolo software (the software that assist the contributor in data extraction and data formatting). This requires competencies difficult to find and we need to attract institution into making some of their staff available in specific fields like semantic analysis, profile comparison, ontologies, RDF, etc…
We plan to start multi institution collaboration (public and private, international). We will together define a project that corresponds to the needs of Medolo. Then, together we will search for funds on the basis of the project for Medolo. Medolo will take the lead in the project management and therefore we need to hire a project manager.

We are just starting the project and we are hiring the five members of the team. We will develop our system through partnerships with computer science organisations, and raise funds together. We’re looking for people who are passionate about open-data, communities based knowledge and ready to work in a small cohesive team.

Project management plays a vital role for Medolo. This position is responsible for the relation with partners during the joint fund raising like for example the H2020 grants in Europe. Area of responsibilities include finding partners, setting consortium, managing the grant filing process, closing agreements, managing the projects with appropriate methodology and checking the spendings.
The ideal candidate is a community player, will handle the communication with partners / contributors and ensure that collaboration is cohesive and productive. He his a skilled negotiator. He makes important decisions and always looks for consensus. He is very supportive and adaptive but has a clear strategic vision that he is able to communicate. Good command of written English.

Description:

  • Elaborate a strategy of to identify and gather partners. Support pro-actively the emergence of Consortium.
  • Propose a draft, let the partners to elaborate. Write the consensus proposals.
  • Educate partners to become full Medolo contributors.
  • Work with contributors to plan and shape community collaboration from product inception to development and roll-out
  • Engage communities in the software development process with quality and standardisation in mind.
  • Build and support a network of volunteers working with the partners. Promote openness.
  • Manage trainees project and management
  • Monitor projects on emerging issues in software projects, with the assistance of volunteers and trainees.
  • Ensure that core team members are informed and represented in decision-making concerning projects

Science & Patent management

In order to support the scientists in patent data capturing we need some expertise both in science and patents. This is why a position is dedicated to building such expertise and working in team with the promotion and project management officers.

The science and patent officeris a key for our organisation specifically because scientists are our target community and patents our raw material. The holder of this position is responsible for the relation with the community of scientific contributors that extract science data out of patents. During the development phase the candidate will take over the interface design and tests with scientists, the writing of guides and the training of our contributors.

Technology officer and system management

The project is based on technology. The community don’t manage the servers and others technologies used. This is the mission of Medolo institute and Medolo coop.

Here we don’t deal with the Medolo software development but the whole system management and development of the km and community platform.

As technology officer and system manageryou will be in charge of all the community system and interfaces. Medolo is an online community and the technologist will have a central role. This includes the choices of technologies, attracting volunteer contributors on the project and working with them.

The ideal candidate is proficient at managing a Linux system, uses open standards and is able to select robust and low tech tools where possible. In addition, the area of responsibilities involves community solution architecture, recruitment and management of a team of volunteer developers following the Medolo guidelines and response to user questions.
